Todd is a 42 year resident of Algiers with roots in Stratford and Lordship, Connecticut and he attended O.P. Walker Sr. High.
Shortly after coming out publicly in 1988, he enrolled at the University of New Orleans in the department of Drama and Communications and soon became the Co-President of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance, as well as, Senator for the College of Liberal Arts. In his two-term tenure as Co-President, Todd scheduled monthly seminars for the student body membership to include PFLAG, LAGPAC, New Orleans Gay Pride, the Forum For Equality, the Log Cabin Society, the NO/AIDS Task Force, LEGAL, the LGBT Community Center, the New Orleans March on Washington Committee, the Louisiana Stonewall 25 Committee and more. Most notably, Todd invited Mayorial candidates Marc Morial and Donald Mintz to address the students and faculty alike during their campaign for Mayor of New Orleans in 1994. Mintz declined, however, Morial did not and addressed a standing room only crowd to the amazement of the University’s administration at the University Center on campus.
Todd was instrumental in bringing UNO-GALA out of the closet and into plain sight on campus and throughout the community at large as exampled by volunteering with the WYES membership drive’s on air, phone lines, and surpassing the college Republican’s as the largest student organization on campus.
Through community fundraising, Todd was able to lead a group of students to the March on Washington in 1993 and Stonewall 25 in 1994. From his involvement in these historic events Todd became involved with New Orleans Gay Pride in 1993 and held a board position as student liaison.
Todd returned to the board of Gay Pride in 2003 and was chairman of the board in 2006. Following Hurricane Katrina, Todd and the board staged a two day event at Washington Square Park including free chicken for everyone and entertainment by Charmaine Neville, the Revealers, Lisa Lynn and more, and the event was free and open to the public. Todd secured McDonalds Corportion as a major sponsor who partnered with PFLAG to set up a kids section for partners with families and likened the event to a "Family Picnic." He also initiated contact with comedienne Grace Fraga to entertain and help raise funds for the community’s Gay Pride Festival.
While working as the Assistant Operations Manager, and later as the Assistant Sales Rep of Louisiana and Mississippi for Esprit de Corp and Esprit Sport, Todd led their NO/AIDS Walk team annually and set up blood drives for the Louisiana Blood Bank at the company’s St. Charles Avenue Outlet Store. After leaving the retail / wholesale ready to wear line, Todd entered into the service industry where he opened two restaurants for Fashion Cafe, one in Jakarta and the other in Mexico City as their international corporate bar trainer.Todd has worked as a bartender at MRB and the Golden Lantern, and as Front of the House Manager for Cafe Pontalba and Petunias, and is currently the Banquets Coordinator for Dickie Brennnan’s Palace Cafe.
Riding in the Gay Easter Parade for the first time in 2004 with then King and Queen Satyricon II, the late David Boyd and Bianca Del Rio, was a blast and an exhilarating thrill. Todd has participated in the parade since that day and is thrilled to return as a gold level sponsor this year and reign as your Easter Grand Marshal XV along with Stuart Nettles.
"Todd hopes you all come out in support of the Gay Easter Parade and our fundraising effort to reach our goal of $30,000 for Food for Friends. Todd shares a sense of accomplishment for his efforts in our LGBT fight for freedom and is humbled by the efforts and struggles of those who came before, and oh so proud of our community’s youth who continue to carry the torch."
